Meet the Team

  • A: No. Abide seeks to connect both single and married young adults. However, we have had roughly 10 marriages come from our meetings, along with countless friendships. We praise God for whatever kind of God-honoring relationships come from our gatherings.

  • A: Young adults include both single and married individuals particularly from the ages of 18-mid 30s, with a hard cut off of 40.

NAPARC stands for North American Presbyterian and Reformed Council and is made up of  13 like-minded denominations including: The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARPC), The Canadian Reformed Churches (CanRC ), The Reformed Church of Quebec (ERQ ), The Free Reformed Churches of North America (FRCNA), The Heritage Reformed Congregations (HRC),  The Korean American Presbyterian Church (KAPC), The Korean Presbyterian Church in America (Kosin) (KPCA), The Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), The Presbyterian Reformed Church (PresRC), The Reformed Church in the United States (RCUS), The Reformed Presbyterian Church in North America (RPCNA), and The United Reformed Churches in North America (URCNA).

Reformed means that we follow in the protestant understanding of scripture summarized in the five solas, along with the historic creeds and confessions of the church. Presbyterian refers to a model under which the church is governed in which a group of elders lead and rule as a session/consistory and that the local church joins together with churches in its region which also participates within the larger denominational body.

  • A: There are three ways: 1. Retreats: There are multiple retreats each year to connect with people from all over the country. 2. Events: There are quarterly events held that connect local NAPARC communities throughout the country. 3. App: Finally, we currently use an app called Spaces by Wix that fosters daily opportunities to connect with young adults both locally and nationally.

  • A: Abide benefits churches of all sizes, but especially churches that are small in number. Even if there is just one individual in the 18-40 age range, Abide gives additional fellowship opportunities to young adults who love their church but don’t have many opportunities to fellowship with individuals their age within their church community.

  • A: A young adult from a NAPARC church would fill out a volunteer application. Or, if you would like to learn more before doing so you can fill out a contact form. Our volunteers serve both out front and behind the scenes as Area Coordinators of Events, Regional Managers, Regional Retreat Committee Members, Marketing & Video Editors, and serve on the Board of Directors. If you would simply like to attend Abide as just a member of our community, you can do so by attending retreats, events, and by getting connected virtually by downloading Spaces by Wix.

  • A: Abide is under the oversight of Trinity United Reformed Church in Visalia, California, along with a Board of Directors and a seminary-trained (MDiv) Executive Director.

  • A: Abide is for young adults and is run by young adults, under the supervision of their local churches. Abide relieves, rather than adds to, the work of an elder. However, elders are involved in selecting qualified volunteers from their church.

  • A: No, Abide is meant to supplement, not replace, ministry focused on young adults within each local church.

  • A: We are excited when we learn of local churches in the same denomination having gatherings together! Abide is just one more outlet for like-minded young adults to meet one another by drawing from a larger pool of the denominations represented in NAPARC, thereby giving more opportunities to meet other like-minded individuals.

  • A: Our desire and hope is that through developing genuine relationships with young adults, it would organically spread to connect local churches together in whatever way makes sense in each particular context. The 13 denominations under the umbrella of NAPARC are in great need of more fellowship together and Abide seeks to intentionally cultivate and fan into flame organic fellowship.

  • A: Yes, churches that are specifically NAPARC-like. Meaning, churches that are still confessional and covenantal and not in clear opposition to the fundamental doctrines held by NAPARC churches. This is determined on a church-by-church basis. See the question below when referring to an individual.

  • A: Fill out a contact form and connect with us! We would love to get to know you and see about connecting you to the young adults in your area.

  • A: Abide is different from other fellowship-focused young adult groups because it provides ongoing fellowship for a whole year. By developing areas and retreats throughout the country near NAPARC churches, young adults can have both local and national networks to connect with like-minded individuals their age.

  • A: Abide would point you to the Machen Retreat & Conference Center located in Virginia. They host one retreat each year specifically for singles 40+.

  • A: Abide is a non-profit 501(C)(3) ministry that is sustained by churches and individual donors. Abide employs one full-time Executive Director and one part-time Administrative Assistant, with the hopes of adding more employees and volunteers as we grow. To keep growing and supporting young adults around the country, Abide encourages financial giving. Click here to support Abide.
